| List of Agrochemicals |

As growers are aware, the Association has been doing work with the Deciduous Fruit Producers' Trust, independent consultants, Capespan, the SA PIP fund and the Department of Agriculture in the area of legalisation of use of agrochemicals in the production of cherries. This process and the process of selection of agrochemicals was discussed at the AGM on 16 September 2005. In accordance with the request of the growers to publish the information, the following describes the factors considered in selecting the agrochemicals as well as the products selected. Factors A number of strategically important compounds are to be selected for use in the cherry industry. During the selection process the following factors are to be considered: ◊ The presence of local and international MRL's. ◊ Registration on other crops for similar pests or diseases than for those which the compound is anticipated to be used on cherries in SA as well as in other countries. ◊ Harvest intervals and breakdown curves. ◊ Likelihood that the target organism could develop resistance against the compound in the nearby future. ◊ Market sentiment of the product. Products The cherry growers have agreed to limit their use of agrochemicals to 16 products. Of these, seven are already registered for use on cherries: ο Methidathion / Ultracide or Suprathion Nine of the sixteen products are registered for use on other crops, but for similar disorders than those intended on cherries.
The following three products do not have international MRL's and may not be used on cherries. However they have been identified by growers as for future registration and use due to the advantages they offer. Updates to the international MRL list is constantly monitored, and any change to their status which might results in the growers being able to use them will result in an update of this site.
